It was last minute and rather shambolic, but at the stroke of 11pm on transfer deadline day Manchester United finally added a midfielder to their squad.
After handing in a transfer request at Goodison Park just hours before the window closed, Marouane Fellaini, the Belgium international, left Everton for Old Trafford in a £27.5m deal.
As for Everton, Roberto Martínez responded to Fellaini’s departure by bolstering Everton’s midfield with Wigan’s James McCarthy and Manchester City’s Gareth Barry.
Whilst Fellaini joined Man United, Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera’s spectacularly collapsed amid reports that the men in Spain who were said to be conducting the frantic last minute transfer were in fact rogue impostors.
