“I feel a bit embarrassed about it – I didn’t expect that to go in. I caught it sweet, but I still couldn’t believe it when the ball hit the net. Everything seemed to be in slow motion. It was a bizarre feeling and in some ways I’m happier with the clean sheet than the goal. But it came at the perfect time.” – Mark Hudson.
It was a busy night in the Championship on Tuesday but there is no doubting the goal of the round in England’s second division.
Cardiff all but secured their place in the Championship play-offs with a 2-0 win over the Rams but the abiding memory of the game will be one of the best goals of the season.
Hudson strode out of defence in the 69th minute and simply smacked a blockbuster past Derby keeper Frank Fielding.
Malky Mackay, the Cardiff manager, said afterwards: ”It was a great bit of skill from Mark – and he absolutely meant it. That was no fluke, he went for goal.”
