Mancini: I don’t know why Man City sacked me, Cavani was the top target this summer [CdS]

Presumably having seen the first edition of Thursday’s Corriere dello Sport before anybody else, Italian correspondent Tancredi Palmeri has broken the news that Roberto Mancini has finally spoken to the press following his sacking from Manchester City.

According to Palmeri:

Mancini was fired by Man City during the middle of May after three years in charge at the Etihad stadium.

After being let go, Mancini showed a lovely moment on humility in a public thank you to Man City’s fans. Taking out a full page advert in the Manchester Evening News, Mancini plastered his face (wearing his famous blue and white scarf) alongside the FA Cup, Premier League and Charity Shield with the message “You will always be in my heart, Caio.”

As to Mancini’s comments about Cavani, the soundbites are interesting after recent reports have suggested that Chelsea are now the frontrunners for the Uruguayan’s signature.

Earlier in the week news broke that Roman Abramovich has guaranteed Cavani 9 million euros per season at Chelsea and the Europa League winners are set to begin negotiating with Napoli in the next few days.
