Manchester United are lining up a bid for James Rodriuguez, according to The Sun.
And not just any bid: a British transfer record, the tabloid claim.
Having broken the British record with their signing of Angel Di Maria, the paper claim that United would need to stump that deal in order to secure the Colombian’s services, who signed for Real Madrid in a 63m pound deal in the summer of 2014.
James enjoyed a reasonably good first season at Madrid, earning himself a Ballon D’Or nomination for his creative play behind the attacking trident of Bale-Benzema-Ronaldo.
But a combination of injuries and a clash with former manager Rafa Benitez has seen the Colombian make just 7 league starts for Madrid this season.
The arrival of Zidane could placate James and convince him to stay, but if he remains on the margins much longer he may be tempted by a move away.
