Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany gives interview to club channel after signing new contract
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has given his first interview since signing a new contract with the club.
The Belgian defender signed a five year extension to his current deal, keeping him at the club until 2019.
Here he spoke about why he feels that City is the best place for him to play his football: “We will progress further this year. We’re comfortable with the style of football, with the system of football.
Champions League is a big target for us. We never overlook other competitions but the Champions League is measuring yourself against the best in the world, the best in Europe. It’s a different challenge. We felt like last year there wasn’t too much difference between us and the top three or four sides; we’re trying to bridge the gap and become stronger than them.”
Kompany has struggled with injuries over the last year and City have missed his presence at the back. They will be hoping to keep the defender fit throughout the season and since bolstering their defence with Eliaquim Mangala their back-line is starting to look a lot more secure.
