A picture uploaded onto Twitter from Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri on Sunday got plenty of people excited as Manchester United manager David Moyes was spotted in the crowd at Cagliari v Juventus.
According to the rumour mill, Moyes’ presence at the game was to get an personal view of highly-prized Cagliari defender Davide Astori.
The 27-year-old Cagliari central defender, who has been linked to Southampton, has been a solid player for Cagliari over the last six seasons, but suggestions are swirling around that the Rossonblu would let their player go for the right fee. That fee is said to be around £12.5m.
The left-sided Astori has been an outstanding performer for mid-table Cagliari, and he featured for Italy at the Confederations Cup earlier this year. He is expected to contend for a reserve spot in Cesare Prandelli’s World Cup squad this summer.
Manchester United have several defensive issues to consider in the near future, with Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic all approaching the end of their careers at Old Trafford.
