Assuming he is still Manchester United manager by the summer, Louis van Gaal is attempting to hijack the transfer of Danilo from Porto to Real Madrid.
The Brazilian full-back is one of the hottest properties in Europe but it had been believed that he has already agreed to join Madrid next season.
However, the Daily Mail report that United are contacting Porto to confirm this as van Gaal is a big fan of Danilo, a marauding defender with four goals to his name this term.
Antonio Valencia’s poor display in the FA Cup tie at home to Arsenal confirms that his long-term future cannot viably be at right-back.
It’s also been said that van Gaal is ready to offload Rafael Da Silva in the summer as he has reservations about his ability to actually defend.
If United have indeed missed out on Danilo then they will turn their attention back to Southampton player Nathaniel Clyne and Barcelona stalwart Dani Alves.
