Lyon pulled five points clear in Ligue 1; Lille edge out Auxerre in five goal thriller

Le Havre 0 – Lyon 1 (Ligue 1, September 20, 2008) Ederson grabbed the only goal of the game from the penalty spot just a minute before the interval. Lyon had Govou sent off after the break but Lyon held on to open up a five point lead in France.

Nantes 2 – Valenciennes 0 (Ligue 1, September 20, 2008) Nantes claimed their first victory of the season, Mamadou Bagayoko got them on their way when he converted a 40th minute penalty, before sealing the points with a second on 54 minutes.

Lorient 1 – Caen 1 (Ligue 1, September 20, 2008) Rafik Saifi had given Lorient the lead on 35 minutes but Anthony Deroin ensured the points were shared when he snatched an equaliser five minutes from time.

Lille 3 – Auxerre 2 (Ligue 1, September 20, 2008) (Longer highlights here.) Vinicius De Melo had given Lille a fourth minute lead, only to see a Julien Quercia brace turn the tie in favour of the visitors. With time running out, Eden Hazard levelled matters and Melo grabbed an injury-time winner.

Grenoble 0 – Bordeaux 1 (Ligue 1, September 20, 2008) Ferreira Vieira Jussie was the hero for Laurent Blanc’s side as he snatched a winner 10 minutes from time. By that stage Bordeuax had been reduced to nine men after Alou Diarra (49) and Geraldo Wendell (52) saw red. A bad tempered contest was then completed in stoppage time when Grenoble’s Martial Robin became the third man to be given his marching orders.

Toulouse 2 – Sochaux 1 (Ligue 1, September 20, 2008) Andre Pierre Gignac opened the scoring after just six minutes and doubled his personal tally when he fired home from the spot just after the hour-mark. Damien Perquis pulled one back for Sochaux on 68 minutes but they were unable to force a further breakthrough.
