After a trying week on Merseyside, the Liverpool youth showed light at the end of the tunnel by trouncing Birmingham 3-nil away, leaving the Anfield club are on the verge of reaching their third Youth Cup final in the past four years.
The damage was inflicted inside the opening half hour of the first leg.
A scrap in the Brum box after a corner allowed Finnish striker Lauri Dalla Valle (pictured) to swing a boot at the loose ball, with his effort trickling into the far post for the opener. Continuing to build up his reputation, youngster David Amoo then added a superb second, jinking past a couple of home defenders before lifting a class shot over the keeper.
The third was a nightmare for Birmingham’s young keeper, Dean Lyness. Looking to restart play by hurling the ball out of his grasp, poor Lyness had a brain-freeze with the ball simply dropping out of his grasp and to the feet of Lauri Dalla Valle. With the goal wide open, the striker had the simple job of rolling in his second of the match.
