Having captain his team to the trophy and scored a goal in the final, Steven Gerrard has a special relationship with the Champions League.
And after a 5 year hiatus in the wildnersness, he’ll be lining out with Liverpool in Europe’s premier competition once again this year.
In the interview below, Gerrard speaks of his boyish excitement at the chance to play Champions League football again, which is obvious from the fact that he had friends around to watch Thursday’s draw, which saw them drawn with champions Real Madrid, Basel, and Ludogorets.
Gerrard recalled Liverpool’s 5-0 aggregate win over Madrid in 2009, though of course cautioned that things will be a little different this time around, with Real the reigning champs.
Stevie G also spoke of his admiration for Mario Balotelli; having played against him several times for England and Liverpool, Gerrard highlights his movement and power as his biggest assests for the Reds.
