After an awful winter season, Schalke have improved recently to climb up to sixth in the table. Unbeaten in four, Schalke host a Dortmund side who only lost one league game away from home all season.
Schalke beat Dortmund in the Ruhr derby earlier this season and will feel confident of repeating this result at home, as they prepare for their Champions League second leg at home to Galatasaray.
Jermaine Jones will be out for the hosts and will be replaced by Marco Hoeger, a midfielder who played a key role in Schalke’s 2-1 shock win over Dortmund earlier this season.
Schalke’s main striker is Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, however the goals have been spread out throughout the team with 13 different scorers already this season.
Dortmund have plenty of attacking threats. Top scorer Robert Lewandowski is a real handful and the pace of Marco Reus and Jacub Blaszczykowski are perfectly complimented by the vision and skill of Mario Gotze.
Both teams have plenty to fight for in this game. Dortmund have only a one point lead over 3rd placed Leverkusen, whilst 6th placed Schalke are hopeful of a Champions League spot.
It promises to be a fiery derby with 200 arrests made the last time these teams met. Schalke have come into form recently and should prove a difficult task for the current champions.
