The big team news for Atletico is that Radamel Falcao is out.
The Colombian centre-forward picked up a hamstring injury during Atletico’s 2-0 win over Levante last weekend in the league, and Diego Simone will be shorn of his star player for a few weeks.
Atletico, second in La Liga and the only realistic remaining title challenger sto Barcelona, are however well equipped to deal with Falcao’s absence. Adrian Lopez, Diego Costa and Raul Garcia can all step into the attack, while Koke, Cristian Rodriguez and Tiago offer support from midfield.
Further back all eyes will be on Chelsea loanee keeper Thibuat Courtois, who this week has been at the centre of a new online craze called “Thibuating” which pays ode to the fantastic form of the Belgium keeper.
Betis will be no pushovers though. Fourth in the top flight, Betis are many observers team of the year in Spain, spearheaded by the red-hot 31-year-old attacker Ruben Castro.
Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell will likely also feature for Betis in attack as the Bianco-Verdi look to overturn a 2-goal deficit, while midfield maestro Benat Etxebarria will play the quarterback role for the hosts.
If Betis can score first and early, then this match could turn out to be a cracker.
