Lionel Messi once again showed on Sunday that he is probably the best player in the world, rescuing Barcelona to claim yet another three points.
At the time of his introduction, Barca were trailing Racing at the El Sardinero stadium, having fallen behind to Nikola Zigic’s penalty early in the second half.
But Pep Guardiola had an ace up his sleeve, and the Argentine forward turned the game on its head with two classy goals.
In doing so, Messi also made history by netting Barca’s 5,000 goal in the league, and on a more personal level, the 21-year-old also made a significant personal stride in the ESM Golden Shoe rankings. His 15th and 16th goals in the La Liga this season lifted him to fifth in the race to be crowned as Europe’s most prolific marksman.
