Newcastle are closing in on another player from France with L’Equipe reporting this morning that Nancy have accepted their 2.5 million euro bid for left back Massadio Haidara.
The highly-rated defender has been linked with a number of English clubs in recent times after impressing in Ligue 1, including Newcastle and Aston Villa.
Whilst Nancy have accepted Newcastle’s bid for Haidara, it is not certain he will be heading to the Toon as personal terms are not yet agreed and the player himself cast doubt on his desire to play in England earlier this week.
Haidara told TMW: “I prefer Roma to Newcastle, as I prefer Serie A. I’d love to play in Italy, though Newcastle are also a good team. I know that my agent has spoken to both clubs, we’ll see what happens. As far as I am concerned, I’d love to play in Italy.”
The 20-year-old defender has 18 months left on his Nancy contract and Alan Pardew is keen to add quality to his Newcastle squad after a poor first half to the Premier League season.
