As the long and lengthy career of Ryan Giggs comes into its final season (surely, right?) it is crazy to think the Welsh wizard once played second fiddle to another flying left winger at Old Trafford.
Step forward Lee Sharpe who despite failing to live up to his early promise did play a part in Manchester United’s early Premier League title successes.
Sharpe, who may now be better known for his appearances on reality TV shows and as a pundit on Abu Dhabi Sports Channel, was part of a Manchester United legends side that took on Real Madrid in a charity match at the Bernabeu on Sunday night.
United lost 3-2 but Sharpe had scored an early equaliser from an Andy Cole cross and the former England international rolled back the years by heading to the corner flag for his trademark celebration.
Sharpe’s famous goal celebration was recently shortlisted as one of the Premier League’s 20 most famous to mark 20 years of the league.
