Jose Mourinho hasn’t even kicked off his second stint as manager of Chelsea, but already there is talk of the Special One leaving Stamford Bridge again.
A spurious article on the front page of the Sunday Telegraph’s sports section includes a picture of Mourinho with the headline: Mourinho will go if he does not win trophies.
The truth is that while the headline could send Chelsea fans into panic mode, the substance of the piece reveals how misleading the title is.
Ahead of the Blues’ opener against Hull on Sunday, the article in the Telegraph reads:
Jose Mourinho has said he will quit Chelsea if if he does not win trophies. He insisted the “pressure” should be off him this season becuase his club were heading in a different direction and trying to develop younger players. But ahead of [the] first Premier League fixture at home to Hill Ciy, he said that his job remained “about winning trophies”.
“I’m not the person to be in a club three or four years without winning a trophy.”
