The Manchester Evening News have been supplied with an interesting nugget of information, reporting that Jorge Mendes has a meeting booked with Ed Woodward to discuss the future Man United manager.
Mendes represents Jose Mourinho, who has long been tipped with a possible move to Old Trafford.
Mourinho seemed a lock to replace Louis van Gaal a month ago, but now the mood feels different. LVG’s role in the United pre-season tour to China was disclosed, while Telegraaf issued a report, from a close friend of Van Gaal, claiming he has 100 million euros to spend on new players.
So who will it be: Mourinho or Van Gaal?
That’s what Mendes is set to find out, having been given previous assurances that the gig was the Special One’s.
M.E.N issued the following claims:
Jose Mourinho ‘s agent Jorge Mendes is expected to speak to Ed Woodward later this week after his client demanded firmer guarantees he will become the next Manchester United manager.
The club contacted Mendes the day after their humiliating Europa League defeat to Midtjylland last month to receive assurances the Portuguese had no intention of re-joining Internazionale, whom he coached to 2010 Champions League glory.
