A versatile player who can play across the back and left-side midfield, Jelle Van Damme may consider adding ‘striker’ to his versatility armoury after his goal in Standard’s win over Courtrai.
The giant Belgian started the game out at left-back, but in reality played more as a Libero, drifting inside and high up the pitch.
It was from a central position that Van Damme laid on Standard’s first goal for Michy Batshuayi, delivering a precision pass into his teammate’s feet.
Van Damme capped a wonderful display with a golazo Cristiano Ronaldo would have been proud of.
Standing on the edge of his own ‘D’ as a Courtrai attack broke down, Van Damme set off on an epic pitch-length run the moment he saw Batshuayi was in control of the ball.
Without ever breaking stride, Van Demme latched onto Batshuayi’s perfect through ball, and finished first time into the bottom corner, with all the composure of a seasoned striker.
Van Damme then showed Psymania is going nowhere for 2013, celebrating his goal with a surprise Gangnam Style dance!
