If AC Milan are going to use their victory over Roma as a launch pad for the rest of their season then they are going to need Brazilian duo Ronaldinho and Alexandre Pato to have more performances like they did against Roma on Sunday night.
In truth, for the first forty-five minutes the Brazilian double-act, like the rest of the Rossoneri team as a whole, were subdued. Ronaldinho had one opportunity from a free-kick which he blazed over the bar while Pato instigated Milan’s best move of the first half which saw Seedorf clatter a shot against the post.
The turning point arrived in the 55th minute when the bucked-toothed wonder made no mistake in slotting a penalty past Roma keeper Doni. The strike was clean, hard and low into the corner and gave the goalie no chance to save.
For the next ten minutes thereafter Ronaldinho and Pato began charging at the Roma backline with varying degrees of success as the tempo and atmosphere in the San Siro intensified. And, in the 66th minute everything finally came together, Dinho spraying a delightful 40-yard pass straight onto the onrushing chest of The Duck, and Pato made no mistake in finding the net after his excellent first touch.
The pair then combined again in the 81st minute, Ronaldinho springing a counter-attack which Pato sadly mis-controlled when clean through on goal. That was to be the number 80’s final contribution as seconds later coach Leonardo hauled off the trickster as Milan closed out the match.
It may not have been vintage, but it’s a good place to start from.
