Lost in the fog of Manchester United’s Champions League exit from the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich was the incredible performance put in by Portuguese winger Nani.
The Lionel Richie lookalike with one of the worst hair cuts in world football was sensational in the first half as he flicked home the second goal and fired home the third, both from Luis Antonio Valencia crosses.
Nani’s standing at Manchester United was showed clearly when the Portuguese winger was played up front by Sir Alex Ferguson when the Red Devils went down to ten men. And “the new Cristiano Ronaldo” came close to winning the tie on his own, a la Messi, in the second half when he ran through only to see his near post effort blocked by Butt.
In what has been a disappointing week for the Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United side, Nani has been the shining light with the Portuguese winger one of the major threats in the defeat to Chelsea. If Ferguson does now build a team, Nani is expected to be one of the major players – a far cry from his standing at Old Trafford at the beginning of the season.
