The Moroccan trickster may have only received 25 minutes to impress at Stamford Bridge, but with a sweet “nuts!” and a lovely pirouette in the middle of the park Adel Taarabt lived up to his reputation as a walking showboat.
Taarabt was introduced with Rangers trailing their London neighbours 1-nil, with the youngster introduced with the aim of unlocking the steadfast Chelsea defence. Such a job proved too big for Taarabt with the forward seeing his first charge on goal snuffed out by Blues’ upstart Sam Hutchinson, before his second attempt to weave some magic down the left hand side also provided little end product.
With the team game not working for QPR, Taarabt reverted to putting on a show for the crowd. That included an outrageously good nutmeg on Joe Cole which result in the returning Blues’ midfielder hacking down his opponent after being totally outfoxed. Then, in injury time, there was another example of Taarabt’s quick feet as the playmaker managed to spin away from both Essien and Lampard’s clutches when it looked like possession was about to be lost.
