Saturday was a wonderful day for football lovers. All of the four Champions League semi-finalists all romped home to comfortable victories ahead of their second legs, with Manchester United and Barcelona both strengthening their hold on their respective domestic league titles.
Against Boro, Sir Alex Ferguson again opted to use Wayne Rooney on the left-hand side and again Rooney earned rave reviews for his performance from his manager.
Fergie: “Wayne is actually starting to enjoy playing on the left now, he’s still scoring goals but in a different way. Where he eventually settles down depends on the make-up of the rest of the team, but he’s capable of playing anywhere in a forward position and the great thing is he’s happy to make any position work… Even when you do play him at centre-forward he’s all over the pitch in any case, because he always wants to be involved in the game. That’s his style, he has a wonderful appetite, he works his socks off and he is unselfish. I don’t think anyone could argue with him as Footballer of the Year, he’s certainly been consistent enough.”

Messi, who claimed two goals and could have bagged a hatful more, was simply sensational as once again the Argentine pocket-dynamo showed why he is considered the greatest footballer in the world at present,
