In typical Arsene Wenger fashion, Arsenal fans were treated to just one new signing in the January transfer window.
Few in North London, nor anywhere else in Britain, had ever heard of Thomas Eisfeld before the Professor swooped for the unknown 19-year-old from Borussia Dortmund.
The teenager with big potential, limited high profile experience and a history of injury problems, signed a long-term deal with Arsenal. It was a move that cynics compared to the Gunners capture of Amaury Bischoff, while optimists were left hoping Eisfeld could prove the new Cesc Fabregas.
Last week in a match against Swansea reserves, the Gunners received their first real insight into the qualities which Eisfeld brings to the table in a 45-minute shift.
Wearing the number ten shirt, Eisfeld showed his attacking intent as he set up Zac Ansah for Arsenal’s first in the 22nd minute. Moreover the young German probed the Swans backline on several occasions, as he showed off his ability to play with either foot and deliver dangerous balls into the mixer.
Watch highlights of Thomas Eisfeld debut Arsenal performance here.
