Individual highlights: Sergio Aguero vs Barcelona; Ricardo Quaresma vs Wigan

Sergio Aguero put in an inspired performance for Atletico Madrid against Barcelona at the weekend, that will have top clubs all over Europe purring over the Argentine youngster who is increasingly looking too hot a talent for the Rojiblancos to hold on to.

The gifted 20-year-old scored two superb goals, including a dramatic 89th minute winner, as Atletico twice came from behind to beat league leaders Barca 4-3 and breathe new life into the Spanish title race.

It is well documented that his farther-in-law and Argentina national coach Diego Maradona has publicly advised Kun to move to a bigger club, and rumours are circulating that Inter Milan are sniffing around the striker. Aguero said last month he was happy at Atletico and was not thinking about moving on but the pressure on the club to cash in will surely mount as his star continues to rise.

Selling Aguero could make sense for both the player, who can begin challenging for medals on a regular basis, as well as the club, who could then use the transfer proceeds to fatten up their squad which is lacking in depth compared to their richer rivals.

From the sublime to the largely forgettable.

Ricardo Quaresma came off the bench during Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Wigan at the weekend as the Portuguese winger continued to look out of his element since arriving to the Premier League.

With several fancy flicks that didn’t quite come off, as well as a couple of over-hit passes, Saturday’s cameo performance was another question mark over the loan signing.

Highlights of Quaresma’s performance against Wigan can be seen here.
