No central midfield pairing has recovered possession more times than Sandro and Mousa Dembele (a combined total of 91 times) in the Premier League this season. – Who Scored.
One of the reasons behind Tottenham’s fine recent run in the Premier League of four successive wins has been the excellent displays in the centre of the park from Mousa Dembele.
The Belgian midfielder came to England as an attacking midfielder but after being moved into a deeper role at Fulham has flourished in the early part of his Spurs career alongside Sandro where he can break up play as well as build attacks.
With Andre Villas-Boas reportedly keen on signing Joao Moutinho for Spurs in the summer, he may not have planned to build a central midfield in the manner it has developed, but it looks very strong for the season ahead.
Against Villa, Dembele made a number of interceptions and tackles before showing his trademark ability to beat men with a long stride in the middle of the park.
Arguably one of the signings of the summer, Mousa Dembele’s individual highlights in Tottenham’s win over Aston Villa can be seen here:
