Individual highlights: Alex Songs Spanish league debut (Barcelona) v ValenciaTito Vilanova rested Sergio Busquets for the visit of Valencia last weekend in La Liga, and that afforded new signing Alex Song his Spanish league debut against Los Che in front of a packed Nou Camp stadium.

Song was deployed as a holding midfielder in the Barcelona midfield, which allowed the ex-Arsenal man the chance to show off his tackling, ball winning, and distribution skills in front of his new Catalans fans.

In the first half especially, Song’s performance was stellar.

The Cameroonian won a series of tackles both in deep and high-pressing positions, whilst after cutting Valencia attacks short Song was played a key role in kickstarting Barcelona counter-attacks.

In total Alex Song attempted 67 passes against Valencia of which 61 were successful, whilst he made five clean interceptions as well as two fouls.
