The magnitude of Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday is even more staggering, considering the costs of the respective starting XI’s.
Chelsea lost to a team newly-promoted to the Premier League for the first time since 2001 and for the first time since the Roman Abramovich era began.
Since the Russian’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, the club has spent millions of pounds building a squad capable of challenging for honours, both domestically and in Europe.
This current Chelsea side is no different, with the side that started at Stamford Birdge on Saturday costing over £200 million.
Bournemouth on the other hand have in the past come close to financial ruin, with fans of the South Coast club having to put their hands in their own pockets in the past to ensure their club stays alive.
Whilst their financial future is secure, the current crop of players who starred in their side’s famous victory last night cost just over a measly £1.3 million.
