The second game of the Apertura playoff was held last night, with Boca Juniors comfortably beating San Lorenzo. However it was far from plain sailing for Boca, who had to overcome a serious early blow, after a horrendous clash in the 19th minute left young Boca defender Juan Forlin pole-axed and in urgent need of medical attention.
The incident occurred as a result of a coming together between Nestor Silvera and Forlin. Both players suffered from the collision, however Forlin took the harder fall. TV cameras immediately moved in on Forlin, who quickly and scarily turned an unearthly shade of blue and was shaking on the turf in what appeared to be a seizure. Within seconds, staff from both benches were sprinting onto the pitch almost before the referee could stop the match. The physio who reached Forlin first immediately put his fingers in the defender’s mouth, seemingly in an effort to prevent the youngster from swallowing his tongue.
The match was held up for eight minutes whilst the players were removed from the pitch on stretchers. Forlin, unconsciousness when he left the field, was reportedly being kept in after suffering cranial trauma, while Silvera injuries were far less critical, with the player already discharged.
Video footage of the incident can be seen here, and we would warn anyone with a queasy disposition not to watch.
