As we noted on Saturday night, Paolo Guerrero has once again proven himself to be one of the nastiest players in the Bundesliga and has even managed to beat his own record for lengthy suspensions.
In 2010, the Peruvian forward was banned for five-games after throwing a drinks bottle at his own fans – video of that incident here.
Today Guerrero has been banned for eight games for his completely unnecessary challenge on Stuttgart keeper Sven Ulreich.
Hamburg were 3-0 down at the time, the ball was in the corner being shepherded out by Ulreich, when Guerrero went in hard, with studs up on the custodian’s calf.
German newspaper Bild have described it as “one of the clearest red cards in Bundesliga history” and Hamburg had even joined calls for Guerrero to be banned as well as fined.
The eight-game suspension now means Guerrero will miss all but two of the final Bundesliga matches of 2011/2012.
