This is a real life Roy of the Rovers story, that would have even looked outlandish in the cult 80s magazine.
Grays Atletic manager Mark Bentley took it upon himself to come on at half-time of last weekend’s Ryman League (East London semi-pro) match against Hampton and Richmond, and it’s fair to say that his tactical switch had the desired effect.
With the team trailing 2-0 at half-time, Bentley’s move coincided in an incredible comeback, as they came back to win 3-2.
And the boss’ imprint was all over the game, as he not only scored a Hang-Time header, but also saved a penalty, after taking the gloves when the keeper was sent off.
Bentley isn’t actually a player manager (how he was actually allowed do this as an unregistered player is unclear), so this really was an incredible moment.
