GloboEsporte: The best Brazilian XI of 2008 Following the end of the Brazilian season, the biggest Brazilian football newspaper, GloboEsporte, have handed out their awards for the campaign just gone.

Here is the best XI, according to GloboEsporte:

Goalkeeper: Victor (Gremio, 25). This 6.3ft custodian is good at closing down attackers and also in the air; he was an integral part of Gremio coming second in the Campeonato Brasileiro this season.

Right back: Leo Moura (Flamengo, 30). An attacking right sided defender, claimed seven goals in 34 appearances during a highly impressive season. Was also hailed as the best right back during 2007.

Left back: Juan (Flamengo, 26). This 5.5ft left defender chipped in with five goals during the 2008 season. Juan is a player with personality. He does a good job for Flamengo and is one of the most important left sided players in Serie A.

Central defender: Thiago Silva (Fluminense, 24). His excellent performances ensured a big move to AC Milan which will go through on January 1, 2009. He is very fast, has excellent tactical positioning, is a leader, and has good technique and is good in the air. He is a complete player.

Central defender: Miranda (Sao Paulo, 24). One of the main components of Sao Paulo’s Campeonato Brasileiro winning side. A very good defender. A complete player with good technique, who can do a man-to-man marking job, and is very good in the air. He could easily be in the Brazil team.

Right midfield: Hernanes (Sao Paulo, 23). Another player responsible for Sao Paulo winning their third title in a row. The best player in this position in Serie A. He is strong, has good acceleration, good passing and good shooting. Very technical and also can play in all positions in the midfield.

Centre midfield: Ramires (Cruzeiro, 21). He’s the kind of player that can attack and defend with the same quality. Has very good passing and an excellent shot. He scored five goals in the Copa Libertadores of 2008 and also represented Brazil at the Olympics.

Centre midfield: Diego Souza (Palmeiras, 23). A very strong player who is in good physical condition. Has a powerful and precise shot from outside the area. He is a very creative midfielder with great passing ability and is also good in the air.

Left midfield: Alex (Internacional, 26). Scored a very impressive 13 goals in 26 games during 2008. He is very technical. Has good control of the ball and uses his ability to attack all the time. Also has a good shot from long distance.

Striker: Kleber Pereira (Santos, 33). One of the top goal scorers in Brazil with 21 goals. Despite his age he is still excellent in the air, can shoot well and has good tactical positioning.

Striker: Alex Mineiro (Palmeiras, 33). Another veteran to impress with his goal scoring record in 2008 (19 in 26 games). His contract runs out in the coming days, it will be intriguing who takes a chance on a proven goal scorer.
