Last night in Portugal, a Benfica select XI took on a Zidane select XI in a match staged to raise money for Haiti. Not only a money-spinner, the match also contained several comedy moments including the crazy pitch invader who had to be stopped by eight stewards, and the brief cameo from former Malmo and Benfica legend, Mats Ture Magnusson.
During his heyday in the late 80s and early 90s, Magnusson was one of the leading strikers in European football scoring 64 goals in 124 games for the Portuguese giants. But since hanging up his boots in 1994 Magnusson appears to have piling on the pounds, and the tubby forward was almost bursting out his top as he bounced onto the pitch for a late 89th minute substitution.
With his moobs popping through his top, Magnusson managed to entertain the crowd with some terrible mistakes, including tumbling to the floor after losing his balance making a pass and then slipping to the turf seconds later when trying to control the ball.
Highlights of Mats Magnusson’s performance can be seen here.
As a bonus, individual match highlights of Zinedine Zidane’s performance againt the Benfica XI can be seen here.
