Gerard Pique is a well-known vocal Catalan, who makes no bones about voicing his opinion on questions of politics and national identity.
Though he proudly plays for Spain, Pique is a flag-bearer of Catalan identity and culture and proud of it.
The defender blew the Barcelona trumpet in a recent CNN interview, saying ‘Barça is a way of teaching Catalan to the world’.
Pique also said he sees himself playing for another 6 years at the top level, after which he’d like to move into coaching, or ‘who knows’, the Barcelona presidency.
