Gennaro Gattuso: The pitball is tamed

After sneaking past Cyprus with a late 2-1 win courtesy of a Di Natalie double, the Italians’ preparations for their match-up with Georgia tonight has been hampered by injuries to key players.

Marcello Lippi was already getting over the blow of losing defensive duo Fabio Grosso (fractured ribs) and Alessandro Gamberini (dislocated shoulder) from the Cyprus game, only to suffer a cruel twist of fate seeing Rene Gattuso ruled himself out of the match after experiencing a bizarre accident at training on Sunday.

In front of the gazing public and media alike, Gattuso freakishly fell into the dug-out at the training ground, causing multiple fractures to his wrist and ruling him out of contention for the game. We can only assume that the pitbull Gattuso was so focused on his training that he seemingly lost all bearings of where he was standing.

Poor Marcello Lippi was obviously infuriated by the latest blow to his squad, suffering a temper tantrum and chucking a football on the floor to show his anger.
