All the headlines surrounding the World Football Challenge friendly match between LA Galaxy and Manchester City have surrounded Mario Balotelli (video here) which is understandable but there were also some eye catching moments at the Home Depot Centre on Sunday night.
First up, the LA Galaxy equaliser early in the second half was a brilliant strike. David Beckham had already been substituted by this time but Mike Magee showed with a cracking left foot strike from outside the box that Goldenballs is not the only one who can score stunners for Bruce Arena’s side.
And of course, also forgotten is the fact that Manchester City actually won the match on penalties. Star of the show in the shoot-out, which is also great news for England fans, was Joe Hart.
The Three Lions number one saved two penalties (full shoot-out here) and then claimed the win with a terrific shot into the top corner followed by what appeared to be a “Street Fighter” celebration.
Hart is no stranger to scoring brilliant penalties, as he proved at the 2009 Under-21 European Championships, against Sweden – video here. Perhaps Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini will entrust him with spot kick duties this season?
