Sporting Gijon goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar (pictured) is expected to miss the next four months of the season after coming off worse in a collision with Athletic Bilbao’s Carlos Gurpegi.
The 24-year-old custodian has had to have a plate and screws installed into his right ankle after the two players collided in Bilbao’s 3-0 win on Sunday.
Gurpegi looked to have come off worse, with a bloody nose that has since been diagnosed as a fracture. Cuellar meanwhile broke his ankle and according to a club doctor: “He has suffered a fracture, type B, of the right ankle.”
Cuellar had made 11 appearances this season and is considered one of the young and up and coming keepers in Spain.
