Fantastic Fabio: Da Silva hits a hat-trick for the Manchester United reserves (video)

On Monday afternoon Manchester United’s reserve side secured an easy passage into the semi-finals of the Lancashire Senior Cup after resoundingly beating Rochdale 4-1 at Spotland.

But things started badly for the defending champions, who fell behind early doors to a Joe Reidy header. But that only seemed to provoke the Red Devils, with Brazilian Fabio da Silva stealing the headlines with his first three goal haul since arriving at Old Trafford.

The omens started shakily for da Silva as he managed to miss a chance to equalise from the spot. But he quickly shook off his failure to claim his hat-trick, including two predatory finishes from close range and a fine volley.

Danny Welbeck made it four before the hour mark as Ole Solskjaer’s side booked a semi-final date with Preston North End.
