Fabio Capello axes Andrei Arshavin & Roman Pavlychenko from his 30-man Russia provisional World Cup squad
At the same time that Roy Hodgson was announcing his England squad for Brazil 2014, former England manager Fabio Capello unveiled his 30-man Russia provisional squad for the World Cup.
The headline news was the axing of the old guard, with former Arsenal and Tottenham men Andrei Arshavin and Roman Pavlychenko but excluded.
Equally surprisingly, Capello called up Reading’s veteran forward Pavel Pogrebnyak into his plans.
Russia have been drawn in Group H along with Belgium, South Korea and Algeria.
Russia’s 30-man provisional World Cup squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Igor Akinfeev (CSKA Moscow), Yury Lodygin (Zenit St Petersburg), Sergei Ryzhikov (Rubin Kazan).
