Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is close to making his first signing for Spurs: fellow Argentine Esteban Cambiasso.
Pochettino is keen to bring in some midfield experience and has targeted Cambiasso who is available on a free transfer.
The pair played together for the Argentine national team and Gazzetta suggest the deal is getting “closer and closer.”
Cambiasso has spent 10 seasons at Inter Milan, where he won 5 Scudettos, the Champions League, the Club World Cup four Coppa Italia’s.
The Argentine midfielder turns 34 in August and is reportedly keen to try the Premier League having played in Serie A and La Liga.
Whilst not a glamour signing, Cambiasso on a free transfer would be a boost for Pochettino and may also help Erik Lamela’s integration into English football.
