The truth is this FAIL has little to do with football. It’s all about geography.
US soccer personality Alexi Lalas appeared on ESPN’s Mike and Mike radio show on Tuesday, and the former famous goatee was quizzed about the upcoming Euros.
After a brief discussion laying out the format and composition of the tournament, one of the hosts muttered:
I think, Alexi, for a lot of American soccer fans, they’re invested domestically, but when it comes to big names, you know, they know about Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. How’s the outlook looking for both those guys and their teams?
Sadly Lalas missed the opportunity to laugh at the Messi FAIL, instead he diplomatically retorted:
Well Leo Messi won’t be there because it’s Argentina.
Making the Messi screw-up all the more frustrating is the fact that the Barcelona star is currently in the United States ahead of Argentina’s friendly with Brazil on Saturday night. (See an Adidas promo here.)
