Questions directed toward Steven Gerrard at an England press conference today took a retro twist as a journalist brought up the issue of Gerrard starting alongside Frank Lampard.
In the past it had been a common question, when Gerrard and Lampard were in their peak, banging in 20 goals a season; how could you accommodate two relatively similar midfielders in your line-up?
But now the question seems as dated as referring to an England squad as the ‘Golden Generation’.
Both players are in their mid-thirties and it doesn’t seem like much of an issue anymore with the Liverpool captain even responding with: “‘Gerrard and Lampard’, are we not bored of that one yet; go on.”
