As he took to the microphone after Lille’s last Ligue 1 match of the campaign, a 4-1 trouncing of Nancy, in which he had scored a hat-trick, there were many expecting an announcement from Eden Hazard.
Instead he kept all the transfer gossips waiting.
Hazard said: “Until I put pen to paper I won’t say where I’m going. Of course it makes you think as Chelsea have won the Champions League. They’re a big team and will be playing in the Champions League next season. They have great players and I always said I wanted to be playing. I think there is the possibility to play as well.”
So you would think Hazard is going to Chelsea right? Erm, no. the Belgian schemer later told Canal +: “My agent has met with Manchester, and with Chelsea, they give good offers, and are great clubs. I don’t know. It’s not been finalised yet.”
Despite the fact we don’t know his Premier League destination, Eden Hazard proved why so many clubs are after his signature.
And, Lille don’t seem to begrudge his departure. Coach Rudy Garcia said afterwards: ”We are going to celebrate him. I am proud to have taken my part in his progress. I often said he would be one of the European greatest. He’s an exceptional player who made history at the club.”
