Wednesday night sees Barcelona welcome Inter Milan to the Nou Camp in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final, and the Catalans have it all to do trailing 3-1 from the first match in Italy.
Up against it, Barcelona, who had a clean sweep of six trophies last season to establish themselves as the best team in world football, have gone about raising the hype of the game through their “Nos dejaremos la piel” campaign, meaning “We’ll leave our skin” (i.e. we’ll give our all against Inter).
For neutrals however, it seems bizarre that a club like Barcelona feel the need to artificially hype up a match that should, by itself, have more than enough significance without the need for a cheesy slogan.
The naff campaign was first unveiled at the end of their match with Xerez last weekend. Following their 3-1 win, Barcelona’s embarrassed looking players were handed black T-shirts by staff at the club in which to applaud the fans. (See the footage here.)
Since, Barcelona have ran their follow up commercial to their t-shirt stunt. With Iniesta, Valdes, Pique, Xavi, Puyol and Messi all involved, the Catalans have gone about raising the hype even further with a dramatic Spanish ad in which their new slogan was again hammered home. (The ad can be seen here.)
Inter Milan must be now quaking in their boots!
