Gold Coast United’s official bad-boy Steve Pantelidis faces a lengthy suspension after the defender was caught on camera in a violent off-the-ball incident with Robbie Kruse during Friday’s A-League match with the Melbourne Victory.
United’s most-suspended player in their maiden season, Pantelidis faces investigation by the league’s match review panel after TV cameras caught him punching Kruse in the back of the head during a scuffle.
The attack appear both intentional and slyly administered, with Pantelidis making sure to strike out at his victim when no eyes were pointed in his direction. Even Gold Coast boss Miron Bleiberg failed to be able to defend his player’s actions, telling reporters “If he (Pantelidis) pays the price, he pays the price. Obviously Melbourne targeted him – and fair enough because it’s a good tactic.”
Footage of Steve Pantelidis’ assault on Robbie Kruse, as well as separate incident involving Kevin Muscat and United skipper Jason Culina, can be seen here.
