Diego Souza (Palmeiras) lets his middle finger do the talking

Palmeiras striker Diego Souza appears to be heading down a Mario Balotelli path, after the number seven raised his middle finger towards his own supporters after being substituted during Thursday night’s Cop do Brasil match with Atletico-GO.

After his number was raised midway through the second half, Diego Souza, who scored a healthy 11 goals last term, trundled over to the bench. But as he did so the striker turned on his own fans as the cameras caught the hitman mouthing off and flipping his middle finger at the home crowd.

Unsurprisingly Souza’s behaviour went down like a ton of bricks, and as he left the field at the end of the match he was accompanied by a huddle of minders who shepherded the striker down the tunnel.

Making the matter all the more contentious has been Diego Souza’s flat-out refusal to make any sort of public apology for his actions. Although fellow teammates have tried to defuse the situation claiming that Souza regrets his behaviour, the player himself have remained tight-lipped every since he let his finger do the talking.
