Diego Simeone has been given a 3-game touchline ban for the unseemly ballboy incident at the Vicente Calderon last Saturday evening.
Spanish radio show El Partido de las 12 tweeted the news this afternoon, meaning the Atletico players will have to do without the inspiration of their touchline general for the crucial La Liga run-in.
Simeone was sent off by referee Mateu during the game against Malaga, after a ball was thrown on the pitch from the Atletico bench.
El Cholo pleaded his innocence, and the initial replays appeared to corroborate his story, but a further video showed what had really happened – Simeone had ordered the ballboy to throw the ball onto the pitch and thus thwart the Malaga counter attack.
As this happened in La Liga, Simeone won’t be banned for the Champions League, and will of course be on the touchline for tonight’s game against Bayern.
