Last week tongues were left wagging in North London as Tottenham opted to field a reserve XI that included a raft of big money signings and so-called rising star including David Bentley, Tom Huddlestone, Gareth Bale, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Frasier Campbell and Pascal Chimbonda as they took on Chelsea in the Barclays Premier Reserve League.
And Spurs’ supremacy came to the fore as they stuck four goals past the Blues with familiar names getting on the scoresheet.
Pascal Chimbonda opened for the Lilywhites after being played through by Bale, before Pavlyuchenko linked up expertly with his strike-partner Frazier Campbell to double Tottenham’s lead.
Chelsea had several attempts to get themselves back into the match, but the contest was put to bed by a cute Huddlestone free-kick and a second for Campbell from the spot to complete the comfortable rout.
Yet despite the one-sided nature of the result question-marks were thrown at Spurs, with the futures of several of the players included in the match, particularly Pavlyuchenko and Bentley, left in doubt.
