Goldenballs scored a scorcher with the snazzy silver ball.
Reigning MLS champs the LA Galaxy, chalked up just their second win of the season on Saturday night beating the Portland Timbers 3-1 at the Home Depot Centre.
The victory was a much need tonic for Bruce Arena’s men, who had lost their last two encounters having started the new campaign with an opening day win.
In truth however, rather than Beckham, the standout performances came from LA’s boys from Brazil. Juninho (who scored the crucial 2-1 goal in the 83rd) and David Junior Lopes (the hardman) were the Galaxy’s main men in their success, yet we can assume that much of the international media’s attention will focus on Beckham’s injury-time sizzler that added the icing on the cake for the hosts.
Facing a lethargic Timbers at the end of the 90, LA worked the ball down the left hand side before it arrived to Beckham 30-yards from goal. The 36-year-old’s first touch was actually a tad heavy as the ball looked to run away from him, but with no players close enough to intercept Beckham was afforded a shot on goal. His finished, however, was sublime.
“When you give quality players time and space they’ll hurt ya. This fella has been as good as there is throughout his career when in those positions,” was Robbie Earle’s obvious observation.
