How CR9 failed to pick up a booking for this disgraceful act of simulation is a joke.
Real Madrid blew their opportunity to close the gap on La Liga leaders Barcelona on Sunday night as Los Blancos were held to a goalless draw at mid-table Osasuna. Manuel Pellegrini’s charges failed to hit top gear all night in Pamplona and, with their slick brand of football off the boil, it was left to the world’s most expensive footballer to try and con the ref into awarding a penalty.
The incident arose just before the halftime whistle.
Having struggled to exert his usual influence on the game, Ronaldo went to ground far too easily as he was closed down by three red shirts on the edge of the Osasuna box. The former Red Devil managed to earn himself a yard of space with a clever piece of skill knocking the ball behind his standing leg to shift possession away from the home defenders. But once completed Ronaldo abandoned any sense of going after the ball, instead opting to hurl himself on the turf with his puppy-dog eyes immediately fixed on the match-referee.
After yelping like a little girl and seeing the ref ignore his protests, the only thing that was missing was a yellow card for play-acting.
