Crazy anti-social scenes as Newcastle fans stormed a Sunday League match in Wigan last week
- Updated: March 24, 2013
This is a story we missed last week which deserves flagging up.
Last week’s Wigan v Newcastle match in the Premier League was unforgettable for Callum McManaman’s shocking tackle on Massadio Haidara, however away from the DW Stadim more mad scenes were captured in the hours before kick off as Newcastle supporters ran riot during a Sunday League match.
Wigan Cosmos, an amateur team, were busy playing the Leigh Centurions AFC, when 250 Toon supporters invaded the pitch and brought the match to a premature close.
The behaviour of the Newcastle fans was hugely anti-social as the Magpies’ fans broke goalposts, ripped out nets, dropped moonies left-right-and-centre and stole footballs.
Newcastle FC have since stated that they will reimburse Wigan Cosmos for all damage done by their fans.
Watch eye-witness footage, and a handful of pictures, of the Newcastle’s fans running riot can be seen below.
